HIGHLIGHTS

  • Reliance Jio discontinues Rs 2020 yearly plan
  • Jio introduced Rs 2121 yearly plan with 336 days validity
  • The plan offers 1.5GB data per day

Reliance Jio today is the largest network operator in India. In just three years, it became the most sought after telecom brands. Because of its impeccable network and affordable tariff plans, most users have switched from Vodafone and Airtel to Jio. The telecom giant recently launched a new yearly plan costing Rs 2121 and discontinued their existing plan Rs 2020. They have a host of prepaid plans designed according to the needs of different types of people.

Although Jio is the leading telecom company in the market, its prepaid plans are way cheaper than Airtel and Vodafone. But now it seems that Jio has increased the price of its yearly plan from Rs 2020 to Rs 2121. The benefits, however, remain the same.

The Rs 2121 plan offers 1.5GB data per day, unlimited calling to all networks, 100 SMSes. However, the biggest drawback is that the validity has been reduced by 29 days. The Rs 2020 plan was valid for 365 days while the Rs 2121is only for 336 days. The plan offers access to Jio Tv, JioCinema, which was a Video On Demand service. Jio Tv, on the other hand, is a live TV which currently has over 650 channels on it right now.

Vodafone and Airtel, on the other hand, have a yearly plan costing Rs 2399 and Rs 2398 respectively. The plans offer 1.5GB data every day, unlimited calling facility and 100 SMSes per day. The plans also come with a free subscription to Zee5, Vodafone Play and for Airtel apps etc.

The yearly plans are pretty convenient as compared to the monthly plans as you have to recharge your phone just once a year. It is also a lot cheaper than the monthly recharges that you make.

For example, in the case of Jio, the monthly plan offering 1.5GB data, 100SMSes and unlimited calls cost Rs 199 only. If you recharge your phone every month with Rs 199, you will end up spending Rs 2399. Whereas if you opt for the newly released Rs 2121 yearly plan, you will end up saving almost Rs 278. Additionally, you will get more validity if compared to the monthly plan.

The telecom giants Airtel, Vodafone and Jio have altered most of their plans and also introduced some. However, it was disappointing to see Jio reducing the validity of the yearly plan by 29 days.
